County transfer tax

$2,200.00

$1.10 per $1,000 of sale price, paid by the seller. Not editable — it is the county's rate, not an assumption.

Some California cities add a city transfer tax on top of the county's — San Mateo and several cities in Alameda County among them — and those run higher than the county rate. The amount and who pays are set locally; the split is typically 50/50 between buyer and seller, but not always. Check your county tax assessor's website for your city before relying on the figure above.

$0

Optional, and your figure — not ours. Leave it at zero and nothing changes. This is not withheld at closing; it comes off later, on your return. Get the number from your CPA before you plan around it.

What the buyer is asking for

The two buydown figures below come from the same engine as the buyer-facing Three Doors tool — put the same loan, rate and concession into both pages and they show the same numbers.

A buyer asks for help with their rate. Before you say yes or cut the price, see what each version costs you at the closing table — and which ones leave the recorded sale price alone.
